PEOPLE’S CONCERN ABOUT NRC MUST BE ADDRESSED SYMPATHETICALLY
It is a matter of great concern that around 40 lakh people have been excluded in the second and final draft of National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam. It was reported that about 3.29 crores of people have been applied for verification and only 2.89 crore people’s applications have been accepted. The astonishing factor is all these people who have been applied for Citizenship have valid voter identity cards, Aadahar cards and other land records including ration cards as these were the criteria for applying the same.
It is a fact that tens of thousands of people have been staying in Assam generation after generations and contributed much for the overall developments of the state. Now the governments both Central and State are trying to divide the people and trying to weed out the Muslim minorities under the false pretext of Bangaldeshi origins. While doing so the government is targeting the Bengali and Hindi speaking people from other religions also who have migrated to the state decades ago even before the division of India. The BJP governments are doing so by keeping an eye in the ensuing parliament elections as these excluded people will loose their right to cast their votes.
The situation is just like Israel – Palestine as lakhs of people are being forced to live in their motherland as refugees. It is against all the existing human rights and violation of UN Resolutions. The All India Forward Bloc extends its support to the people who are protesting against the anomalies in the preparation of NRC and urges upon the government to find out amicable solution to this burning issue without any prejudice. The party will take stock of the situation in consultation with Party leaders of the state and the people who are agitating for justice.
