“Mr. Prime Minister : Stop Killing Netaji in the Alleged Plane Crash”

Press Release

All India Forward Bloc condemns in the strongest possible words the information given by MHA in response to an RTI query, stating that after considering the reports of Shah Nawaz Committee, Justice G.D. Khosla Commission and Justice Mukherjee Commission of Enquiry, the government has arrived at the conclusion that Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose died in a plane crash on August 18, 1945.

In fact the information given by Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is in contradiction with the report of Justice Mukherjee Commission. On page 123 of this report, Justice Mukherjee concluded:

  1. b) He did not die in the plane crash, as alleged;
  2. c) The ashes in the Japanese Temple are not of Netaji.

When Mukherjee Commission Report was placed and discussed in Parliament, all the senior leaders of B.J.P., who were in opposition at that time, had supported the demand  that the report of Justice  Mukherjee Commission should be accepted.

What new information, documents or evidence has surfaced after that which has compelled the Modi Government to change its’ stand?

We demand that Government should again place Mukherjee Commission Report in Parliament, discuss it and accept it.

The information given by MHA is in contradiction with the spirit of the judgment of the Honorable Supreme Court in the Transferred Case (C) No. 7/1994. The following press communiqué:

“The President is pleased to confer the award of Bharat Ratna posthumously on Shri Subhash Chandra Bose.”

which was issued from the Rashtarpati Bhavan, New Delhi, was published on 23rd of January, 1992.  It  was challenged in the Hon’ble  Supreme Court. Mr. Justice Sujata V. Manohar and Mr. Justice G. B.  Pattanaik of the Hon’ble Supreme Court, in their order dated August 4, 1997, stated: “We declare that the press communiqué should be treated as cancelled”.

The Government of India had mentioned the findings of Shah Nawaz Committee Report and Justice G. D. Khosla Commission report in this matter before the Hon’ ble Supreme Court, but in spite of this, the above mention press communiqué was cancelled, implying that the findings of the Shah Nawaz Committee and Justice G. D. Khosla Commission had been rejected by the Hon’ble Supreme Court.

Besides this, on 3rd September, 1977, Shri Morarji Desai, the then Prime Minister of India, had declared in parliament:

“Since then, reasonable doubts have been cast on the correctness of the conclusions reached in these two reports and various important contradictions in the testimony of witnesses have been noticed. Some further contemporary official documentary records have also become available. In the light of those doubts and contradictions and those records, Government find it difficult to accept that the earlier conclusions are decisive.”

After this rejection by the Govt. of India, the nation wants to know, when did the Govt. of India decided that Netaji died in the plane crash. More over the very appointment of Justice Mukherjee Commission implies the rejection of the reports of Shah Nawaz Enquiry Committee and Justice G. D. Khosla Commission. The rejection of Justice Mukherjee Commission report by the Congress led U.P.A. government in no way implies that the reports of Shah Nawaz Committee and Justice G. D. Khosla Commission have been accepted.

We demand from the Government of India:

1)        Immediately withdraw or cancel the letter issued by the RTI.

2)        Accept the report of Justice Mukherjee Commission of Enquiry.

3)        Declassify all the files and documents related to the disappearance of Netaji and INA.

4)        Initiate other measures to find out what actually happened to the national hero Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

5)        Apologies to the nation for this offense against Netaji.

All India Forward Bloc and the followers of Netaji will organise countrywide protests and dharna from tomorrow till the Government rectifies this historic blunder.
