Dev Dutt Shastri
A short introduction:
Com. Dev Dutt Shastri was born in Uttar Pradesh on 18th December 1917. He was a good student and passed his all examinations with distinctions. But he was attracted to freedom movement and jumped into revolutionary activities. He came in contact with Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose when he resigned from the Congress. Due to his revolutionary activities he was arrested by the British Police several times and was put behind the bars. Even after independence he was arrested during emergency and the free India Police brutally assaulted him. He was a good orator and a prolific writer. He wrote several books and articles on Netaji, Indian Socialism, Socialist movement in India, Working Class movement etc. Com. D.D. Shastri was a well-known Trade Union leader. He was the Chairman of Trade Union Coordination centre (TUCC) till his death. He was elected as the Chairman of All India Forward Bloc Central Committee after the demise of Com. Ayyanambalam in 1998. Com. Shastri was the founder editor of ‘Jangarjan’ the Hindi monthly of the party and he held the post till his death.
